Represent Your Hood

The National Conference of Black Mayors is working closely with the Census Bureau’s 2010 Census Board, in order to ensure that NCBM members have a leadership role as our communities are counted. The Comcast Foundation has partnered with NCBM to sponsor the “Represent Your Hood” marketing campaign, directed towards hard-to-reach populations. Young minorities between the ages 18 - 35 are the most likely to not participate in the Decennial Census process.  This group is also likely to reside in a city governed by a member mayor.  NCBM will employ an aggressive marketing campaign to transmit the message of the importance of participating in the 2010 Census.

Each year, more than $300 billion in federal funds is awarded to states and municipalities based on census data. This funding totals more than $3 trillion over a 10-year period. The funding will determine the use of funds for roads, schools, community centers and badly needed community infrastructure development. NCBM will target the most underrepresented demographic to improve the welfare of the entire community that will result from an accurate 2010 Census count.
