The National Conference of Black Mayors, Inc. (NCBM) has formed an important collaboration with the Service Employees International Union to stay in the forefront of social justice issues and to help improve the lives of working families in NCBM member communities and across the country.  NCBM partnered with SEIU’s Make Work Pay! Campaign, the mission of which  is to secure for all working people a paycheck that supports a family, affordable health care, a retirement with security, and the freedom to form a union to give workers a voice on their jobs.

NCBM and SEIU also commissioned the white paper, “Lifeline to Health Equity: Policies for Real Health Care Reform,” which was published in June 2008. The briefing paper marks the initial step in a partnership that has formed to draw focus on the health crisis that exists in communities of color. NCBM and SEIU have determined several follow-up initiatives to work towards lengthening and improving the quality of life in communities of color.
